Misty Mermaid Art Rubber Stamp by Rick St Dennis
Other Supplies:
- transparency
- embossing ink pad
- blue embossing powder
- heat gun
- glitter glue (blues & greens)
- dimensional paint (flesh)
- permanent markers (browns & pinks, blues)
- various blue ink pads
- clear embossing powder
- watercolor paints
- white ink pad
- dimensional clear gloss medium
- shell & anchor embellishments
- ribbons & fibers
- sponge applicator
Directions:
1. Use embossing ink to stamp the mermaid image directly onto transparency. Heat set with blue embossing powder. (TIP: To prevent stray embossing powder from adhering to your project in unwanted places, simply swipe the surface to be embossed with an anti-static embossing cloth/pad before stamping the image.)
2. Turn over the embossed image and work on the reverse side to carefully fill in the mermaid's scales with different colors of glitter glue.
3. Use permanent markers to color the mermaid's hair on the reverse side. Then fill in the face and upper body with flesh colored dimensional paint. Set aside to dry.
(Flip over to the right side when thoroughly dry.)
4. Stamp raindrop splatters onto white cardstock using blue ink. Next,
stamp the raindrop splatters with embossing ink and heat set with clear
embossing powder.
5. Use watercolor gelatos in shades of blue to color over the raindrop images. Use a wet brush to blend and spread the color to create the bubbly water.
6. Use a dark blue ink to stamp a net pattern around the edges. Add
random impressions of texture dots background stamp extending off the
edge of the paper.
8. Use white ink to stamp bubbles on the reverse side of the mermaid transparency. To create added depth, be sure to overlap the mermaid when stamping and use second generational stamping (make an impression without re-inking) so that those bubbles appear lighter and; therefore, will appear further away.
9. Turn the transparency to the front side and use a blue permanent marker to shade some of the bubbles. Then apply clear gloss dimensional medium to accentuate some of the bubbles and set aside to dry.
10. Matte the painted bubbly background with a narrow border of white cardstock. Then adhere the mermaid transparency over the painted tag. Next, punch a hole in the top of the tag and attach a collection of coordinating ribbons & fibers. Finally, add some shell embellishments and an anchor charm to the top of the tag.
