Ballet Dancer Swirl Card

Well, I must confess I'm a bit out of my comfort zone but I had a great time making a messy background with texture paint. I think the little window was a perfect addition. The red spirals were heat embossed onto acetate which was a great way to add more color and layers when working on a black background.

American Flag Card

Hi There,
Come on over to The Robin's Nest Blog and I will show you how to make an American Flag with Diamond Dew Drops.  It's super easy to do and even though I used the flag to embellish a card, I think the flag would look fabulous on a patriotic scrapbook layout as well.  Three cheers for the Red, White, & Blue!  The complete step by step tutorial is HERE.

Lavender Ballerina Card

I love silhouette images but I especially love this ballet dancer.  I used the same flower stamp to create all the flowers with different mediums...heat embossing, vellum, watercolor, ink, & pink patterned mulberry.  I only recently discovered micro-beads and I love the realistic look it gives to the center of flowers.   I don't use washi tape as much as I should so I was feeling so proud to finally use some as a faux lace strip along the bottom edge.  Some simple hand stitching allowed me to make a quick ruffle tutu from glitter netting to mimic the ruffles on the cake.

Knock Knock - I'm Home Layout

I was inspired by the window theme and making my layout segmented into four boxes.  My sister and her husband had just bought their first house and so the photo is meaningful to me as they are standing by the front door.  They lived in college dorms and many apartments before their "One Day" dream of buying a house came to be.  My title for the layout really should have been "Hello, Welcome, Come In" but once I found that metallic word "Loving" I had to use it.  I used primarily navy blue and yellow gold to keep a simple balance of masculine and feminine qualities.

Tree of Life Layout

This breathtakeing tree is located in Santa Barbara, CA near the courthouse and is just outstandingly beautiful.  The intermingling branches captured my interest. This is one of very few layouts that I have ever done that don't have any people in the photo!  I kept all the embellishments natural by design...simply using shades of green, hexagon shapes, leaves, woodgrain, and birds.

Fairy Confetti Sprinkles

Hi Guys,

I love the soft colors of the background. I used a brayer to apply ink to a floral embossing folder and am thrilled with the result. The sentiment was stamped unto vellum and the edge torn to add softness. Then the fairy was stamped onto transparency and heat embossed with pink. Finally, I used some Dew Drops to create the magical fairy bubbles.

Supplies:
white card stock, transparency, vellum
watermark ink pad, multi-color ink pad

Fairy Stamp (Lavinia)

Let's Dance Layout

My sister and her husband originally met in a swing dance class and now have been married for over 17 years.  They especially enjoy matching the time period in retro clothing & hair styles.   I'm so happy to capture the love that brought them together.  The distressed music sheet paper was perfect to compliment the photo yet not overwhelm or distract from them.  It was very hard to leave all that open space as I usually fill the entire layout but I'm super pleased with the final outcome.  In this case, less is more!  Come on...take my hand...let's dance!
I've made over 500 layouts since I began scrapbooking and this is only the second time I cut the people away from the background. The photo was great but the backdrop was a parking lot and gas station and was depressing. It really improved the layout once I cut them out. I'm sure if they were standing in grass by some bushes I never would have tried to cut around their silhouette. Serendipity....a happy accident!

Just Relax

Hey There,
Instead of creating the standard black silhouette palm tree, I used resist ink to create whistful & ghost-like palm trees.  Then I began blending Distress inks to create the sunset sky.  The beach reminds me of striped beach towels and rows of planks of wood along the pier so I embossed the card base with thin stripes.  I kept the card more masculine with minimal embellishment and it has quickly become one of my favorite CAS cards.
